Written by Jazmyn Brown | 8/17/23 11:00 AM

Dan DeVeney is the Vice President of Marketplace, joining the team with tons of experience that will help us make the lives of travelers even more simple and efficient. Get to know Dan and what he envisions for Marketplace.

Q: Where were you before joining the Marketplace team?

Dan: I actually spent 15 years in the e-commerce industry. I started my career at Hayneedle, which is an online furniture company that was later purchased by Walmart. I spent eight years there doing a variety of jobs from the bottom up. I was an application developer, application architect, product manager, user experience, SEO — pretty much the gamut of all of the e-commerce positions just trying to learn the business and the industry. From there, I moved over to Oriental Trading Company and I really tried to hone my skills there as well as my leadership skills and expertise and then it lead me here.

Q: What drew you to work for a healthcare staffing platform?

Dan: My early career, before I got into e-commerce, was in the healthcare industry. I was an anesthesia tech for years and I loved it. I loved helping patients and seeing how my work every day impacted the lives of others. For the last fifteen years, although I loved what I was doing, I was having a hard time really connecting with the customers and I wanted to get back into an industry where I felt like my work was making an impact. When this position came open, I thought, "Wow that's fantastic!" Here's a position in charge of this technology platform that connects to the healthcare industry that I can see the work that we do making an impact — not only on the lives of nurses and healthcare folks, but also the patients as well.

Q: What kind of influence do you think you'll have on the team?

Dan: Positive, I hope! I really think that the e-commerce industry is extremely mature and super competitive. Over the last fifteen years, I've seen where that industry has gone and how it continues to move forward, break new barriers, and introduce new innovations to the tech space. Bringing that to the healthcare industry where it's a little slower to adapt technology, so being able to take some of the things that I've learned in the-commerce industry and apply them here, I think will be extremely helpful and hopefully give us a leg up and create a great experience for travelers.

Q: What do you envision for the future of Marketplace?

Dan: I'm going to borrow a quote from a colleague of mine, by Randy Huber. We were having a conversation the other day and he was talking about his vision of Marketplace and where we might go. This aspirational vision is that...

Every healthcare traveler would have the Marketplace app on their phone, and it is an integral part of their traveler experience. It just makes their lives easier.

Q: What excites you about Marketplace?

Dan: What excites me about Marketplace, in general, is that we are making an impact on the lives of nurses, of our allied healthcare workers, and patients. I really believe that if we can create an experience that makes our travelers' lives easier and less stressful, that just creates a better environment for them in their facilities and when administering care, to create better care and a better experience for patients. To me, that's so impactful and I just love thinking about what we can do every day is able to impact patients' healthcare across the U.S.

Q: Is there anything you want our travelers to know about you?

Dan: I think it would be interesting if they knew that at one point, I was going to be doctor. I went to school in college where I majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry before I moved on to my technology stint in my career. I spent two years as an Anesthesia Tech and had some ECG tech experience as well. I just love the industry and I'm so happy to be back here working tangentially in that industry and just creating better lives for everyone.
