Ever wish you could get inside the head of a healthcare traveler? What are they thinking? What are they looking for in an assignment?
Well, as a traveler-first platform, we like to think we know travelers and their needs pretty well. With our combined traveler-driven knowledge and the results of the North America Temporary Worker Survey 2022, here are the top three things healthcare travelers look for in a travel assignment.
1. Pay rate
The number one thing healthcare travelers are considering in an assignment is the pay rate. In fact, 90 percent of temporary workers said it was in their top three assignment criteria. This isn't shocking, it should still be kept in mind when it comes to marketing your healthcare travel jobs.
Interestingly enough, the survey also found "two criteria decrease in importance as wages increase: 'training offered' and 'location of assignment.'" If the pay is right, healthcare travelers can be flexible on other job details.
Pay transparency matters to healthcare travelers. Knowing what an assignment pays upfront allows them to fairly compare travel jobs and they’ll trust your agency more for providing all the information they need to make a decision, without having to jump through hoops.
That’s why Fusion Marketplace’s agency partners post pay rates with almost every job posting. Not sure what the pay rate might be? We have a sophisticated formula to help figure out the most accurate salary number for your job posting.
2. Location of assignment
Healthcare temporary workers indicated location as their second priority when it comes to choosing an assignment. In fact, temporary healthcare workers healthcare practitioners surveyed "were more likely to care about the location of the assignment and less likely than average to care about work/life balance," than any other temporary worker.
However, as the market continues to normalize, we'll probably see this factor be more prioritized as travelers, in comparison to pandemic travel where travelers were more likely to go where the crisis pay rates were.
Travelers want to check places off their travel bucket list and take assignments in new, fun places. With a staffing platform like Fusion Marketplace, travelers can filter jobs to their dream locations, so they’re only considering jobs in the places they truly want to go.
3. Working conditions
Finally, travelers care about the working conditions at facilities. Working conditions can include guaranteed hours, floating policy, shift type, facility type, and other integral elements of the assignment.
Workers also reported they valued assignments where the relationships between travelers, perm staff, and facility management was healthy. For instance, travelers want the same amount of respect as perm staff, a complete orientation, and clear goals. Travelers don't appreciate when the job isn't what they thought it would be in terms of pay, benefits, and environment.
Additionally, healthcare professionals may choose to travel to escape poor staff management and the quiet quitting that follows. That’s why it’s important your agency only works with the best facilities which treat travelers well.
Providing as much information as you can about working conditions and job details also helps travelers feel like they have enough information to apply for your assignment. Fusion Marketplace’s filter options allows travelers to narrow their search to their ideal working conditions, so they’re that much closer to submitting applications to the jobs they do see.
